Episode Three of the 1958 British television series "H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man". Not really anything to do with the Novel, the series is a fantasy-espionage series - like Danger Man or the Avengers with the added invisibility gimick.

Still watchable today. A remainder of great times in British television, of which no doubt Ralph Smart (the producer of this and other memorable series) played a significant role.

Assassination of a President
Behind the Mask
The episode opens with a group of people reading a newspaper with the headline "Domecq The Liberator In Town". A discussion ensues as to how this visit by President Domecq represents an opportune moment for vengeance. The leader of the group, Raphael Constantine, has been hideously scarred by previous encounters with Domecq and he wears a face mask to cover the scars. He yearns for revenge, and intends to obtain it by killing the President.
He knows of the Invisible Man's powers and intends to obtain his help. Meanwhile, we see Dr. Brady, the Invisible Man, getting ready for work, in the bathroom, shaving with an electric razor. He is chatting with his niece, Sally, about the need for neatness even though no one can see his beard. Dr. Brady departs for work in his Austin Healey convertible. Along the way, Raphael Constantine has instructed his cohort, Maria (Barbara Chilcott) to drive her small sports car into the ditch in an attempt to lure Dr.Brady into stopping. The ruse works and Dr. Brady offers assistance. Maria persuades Dr. Brady into accompanying her to the mansion where she lives with Raphael Constantine (Dennis Price). There he meets the masked Constantine who proceeds to tell a tale designed to engender Dr. Brady's sympathy. It seems that Constantine is aware of the fact that Dr. Brady needs human subjects to study invisibility in order to understand the nature of the process, and to seek a cure for his own condition. Constantine claims his motivation is to hide the horrible condition of his own scarred face. Dr. Brady is fooled by Constantine's sincerity, contacts his superiors for approval to use Constantine for experiments, and begins to take Constantine into his lab for increasingly larger doses of the invisibility rays. Dr. Brady is proceeding methodically with the process, and the slow pace is making Constantine and his cohorts nervous. They want Constantine to be invisible so he can assassinate President Domecq. Suddenly, the group is alarmed by the announcement that President Domecq will be departing the country ahead of schedule, right after he dedicates a new ship which is being launched at a local shipyard. Constantine and his group decide to kidnap Dr. Brady and hold him prisoner in their estate. They feel they know enough about the invisibility process they can step up the dosages on Constantine to achieve invisibility. While Dr. Brady is being detained by Maria and another thug, Constantine disguises himself in Dr. Brady's bandages, and with his associate, enters the labs to finish the invisibility process. Constantine instructs Marie to smuggle a pistol inside her handbag into the ship dedication ceremonies. After he achieves invisibility, he intends to obtain the pistol and kill Domecq. Constantine's grand plan begins to come apart when Dr. Brady manages to overcome his guard and escape. Meanwhile the invisibility rays overcome Constantine and he dies in the lab. Dr. Brady arrives at the ship dedication ceremony and takes the pistol from Maria. Maria thinks Dr. Brady is Constantine, but moments later, another conspirator arrives and informs Maria that Constantine has been killed. Maria takes another weapon and attempts to kill President Domecq. She is overpowered by Dr. Brady and the pistol taken from her. In the epilogue, President Domecq is seen thanking members of Dr. Brady's support team and the episode ends.
